Police: Officers Tackle Felon With Stolen Gun Near Stamford Train Station

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Stamford man was arrested with a stolen gun after trying to run from police on Thursday afternoon, according to police.

Police said that at around 1:30 p.m., members of the Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit noticed a suspicious car while they were patrolling in the area of Henry Street and Washington Boulevard, about a block from the Stamford train station. 

During their investigation, they detected the odor of marijuana coming from the car, and requested that the driver, 29-year-old Toney Jordan, exit the car, according to police.

After getting out of the car, Jordan tried to run on foot and was tackled by several officers, police said. A violent struggle ensued, according to police. During this struggle, police said that Jordan tried to reach for his waistband as several officers fought to handcuff him.

Officers were eventually able to get control of Jordan and discovered that a he was reaching for a 9mm handgun that had fallen out of his waistband during the struggle, police said. During the arrest, Jordan continued to struggle even after being handcuffed, and at point point he kicked the rear door of a patrol car, causing damage, police said.

Police determined that the gun had been stolen from North Carolina in June, police said. 

Jordan is a convicted felon who has been arrested several times in the past, according to police. Officers also found a small amount of marijuana, police said.

Jordan was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana, interfering with police and third-degree criminal mischief.
