Zappia was born Aug. 18, 1944, in Cirella, Italy, to Giuseppe and Rosa Caruso Zappia. He was a retired employee of Wendon Corporation of Stamford. He also owned his own landscaping and real estate businesses during his career.
Zappia is survived by his children, daughters, Elisabetta "Lisa" Jones (Chris), of Somers, N.Y., Rosa Taulty (William "Bill"), of West Haven; sons, Giuseppe Zappia, of Norwalk and Rocco Zappia, Jr. (Brigid) of Stamford; great aunt, Desiderata "Daisy" Agostino of Greenwich; brother, Carlo Zappia (Fernanda) of Pawling; sister, Maria DiMarzio of Montreal, Canada; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and wife, Maria Angela Zappia.
Calling hours are Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. A funeral procession will leave Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 9:35 a.m. from the funeral home and proceed to Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph's Mausoleum at Putnam Cemetery, Greenwich.
