Nancy Smith, 79, Formerly Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Nancy A. Smith of Waterbury, Conn., and formerly of Stamford and Norwalk, died Sept. 12 at Waterbury Hospital. She was 79. 

Born Sept. 14, 1932, in Port Chester, N.Y., she was a daughter of Austin and Margaret White McNamara. A resident of Waterbury for the last 15 years, Smith lived in Stamford for many years as well as in Norwalk. She was married to Alton H. Smith.

Smith worked as an executive secretary with Dorr-Oliver Inc., Price Waterhouse and most recently with Autoswage Products Inc. of Shelton. An avid reader and gardener, she also enjoyed cooking and bowling. 

Smith is survived by her husband; two sons, Gregory M. (Joyce) Smith, of Newport Beach, Calif., and Michael S. Smith, of Stamford; three daughters, Margaret M. (Michael) Collins, of Wilmington, N.C., Noreen A. (Alfred "Flip") Palumbo, of Norwalk, and Bernadette C. (Mark) Nuelle, of Sandy Hook; a sister, Nora Heinrich, of Palm Coast, Fla.; a brother, Anthony McNamara, of Longview, Texas; eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.  She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Cannizzaro; and a daughter-in-law, Eileen.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Falls Village. Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk handled arrangements.
