Muriel Carlson, 91, Lifelong Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. – Muriel S. Carlson, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Oct. 31 at Stamford Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was 91.

Carlson was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Stamford to George A. and Mary Butler Smith. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas Court 82, and a longtime member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians.

She also taught religious education at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church for many years and was an executive secretary for prior to becoming a lifelong homemaker.

Carlson is survived by four children, William G. (Deborah) Carlson, of Derby, Conn., Bruce V. (Hazel) Carlson, of Norwalk, Linda C. (Gerald) Dunn, of Norwalk, and Brian T. Carlson, of Stamford; two brothers George T. (Nancy) Smith, of Stamford, and Pierce V. (Donna) Smith, of North Carolina; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William A. Carson; and a brother, Thomas B. Smith.

Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory in Stamford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Stamford. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Darien.
