Milton Dexter Coe, 93, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. - Milton Dexter Coe of Stamford died Thursday, Jan. 23. He was 93.

Coe was born Oct. 10, 1920, in Oswego, N.Y.; son of Nelson Webster Coe and Amber Geer Coe. He graduated from Oswego High School in 1938 and Cornell University in 1943. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. After graduation, he was posted as an instructor at Officer Training School in Quantico, Va. After his marriage he was shipped overseas. Upon his return from World War II, he established himself as a sales representative in the nursery supply business. The Coes resided in Newark, N.Y., (where Mr. Coe played semi-pro basketball); Patchogue, Long Island; Ridgefield, Hobe Sound, Fla., and New Canaan.

He was president of the PTA, member of the Kiwanis Club, the Domino Yacht Club, and the M&M Club, all of Patchogue, a member of two Congregational churches and, most recently of the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan.

Coe is survived by his daughters, Katherine Edwards (John) of New Canaan, Dr. Virginia Coe (John) Orlando of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Nancy Oakley (Clyde) of Sayville, Long Island; six grandchildren; four great granddaughters; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Constance; and brothers, Nelson, Vincent and Donald. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 at the First Presbyterian Church in New Canaan, with the Rev. Paul Gilmore officiating. Interment with military honors will be held Feb. 10 in Fredericksburg, Va.
