Zofia Witkowska, 100, Native of Poland

Zofia Witkowska, 100, of Stamford died on May 27. She was born in Poland on May 2, 1911.

She survived two world wars. During WWII, her husband Ludwick Witkowski was captured and held in both German and Russian POW camps. She lived in Communist Police before moving to the United States. She was very dedicated to her church and enjoyed working in her garden and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Witkowska is survived by her son, Jozef Witkowski and his wife, Danuta, of Stamford; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband; three sons, Walerian, Adam and Ludwik Witkowsi, and a brother, Jan Wierzbicki.

A Mass was celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Stamford. Interment followed at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
