Nikiyia Nelson, 19, of Pulaski Street in Stamford was arrested Sunday afternoon after a security guard at Macy's observed her and another female on a security monitor taking store items, according to police. The other female was later identified as Amirah Wash. The security guard saw the two women as they pushed a baby carriage with two children, a boy and a girl, through the juvenile department. As they went through the department they picked up items of clothing and put them in the carriage, according to police. They also entered a fitting room in the men's area, where an employee heard security tags being pulled off clothing. The employee notified security. After leaving the fitting room and browsing through other merchandise, the pair attempted to leave the store with the youngsters and unpaid-for merchandise still in the carriage. The store security officer stopped them and attempted to hold them until police came. However, police said Wash stated that she was already on parole and bolted for the door prior to the arrival of authorities. The mother of the children came to pick them up, and Nelson was charged with sixth-degree larceny (shoplifting), two counts of risk of injury to a child, and conspiracy to commit a crime (sixth-degree larceny). An arrest warrant for Wash was pending.
