What's Happening This Week in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — Here is a list of important government meetings and other events going on in Stamford this week:

Monday, April 9

4 p.m.: The Planning Board holds a special meeting to discuss several additional appropriations, 7th floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

7 p.m.: The Zoning Board holds a public hearing and regular meeting to discuss issues facing the city, including the proposed hotel in Harbor Point. Both the hearing and meeting take place in the cafeteria on the fourth floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd. 

8 p.m.: The Board of Representatives will plan out its discussions for committee meetings for the month. The meeting takes place in the Democratic Caucus Room, 4th floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

8 p.m.: Following the Steering Committee meeting the Fiscal Committee of the Board of Representatives meets with several department heads to discuss their projected budgets for 2013 fiscal year. The meeting will be in the Democratic Caucus Room, 4th floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd. 

Tuesday, April 10

4 p.m.: The Stamford Museum and Nature Center kicks off its “Stories Come Alive” series, which will take place on successive Tuesdays until May 15. The event is free for members, $5 for non-members. 6:30 p.m.: The Board of Education will hold committee meetings for Operations, Fiscal and Policy. The meetings will be held in order in the board’s conference room on the 5th Floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

7 p.m.: The Public Safety, and Health/Education/Ethics committees of the Charter Revision Commission will meet and discuss Stamford’s fire service among other topics. The meeting will take place in the Republican Caucus Room on the 4th floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Wednesday, April 11

7:15 a.m.: The Stamford Yacht Club, 97 Ocean Drive West, will host an Ambassadors Roundtable Breakfast featuring Dr. Christopher Atwood speaking on "Mongolia: The Legacy of Genghis Khan in the 21st Century." Price of admission is $45 for the general public, $25 for forum members, free for AR members.

1 p.m.: The United Way will thank all of its supporters, both corporate and community, at its annual awards luncheon. The event is free and will be at the Sheraton Hotel, 700 Main St., Stamford.

7 p.m.: The Board of Representatives' Fiscal Committee will meet with Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Hamilton to discuss the schools budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The meeting will be held in the Democratic Caucus Room on the 4th floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd. 

7 p.m.: The Charter Revision Commission will have a full meeting to discuss topics individual committees are examining. The meeting will take place in the Republican Caucus Room of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Thursday, April 12

10 a.m.: Learn how to prune your plants from environmental scientist/arborist Jonathan Borysiewicz, at the Bartlett Arboretum, 151 Brookdale Road, Stamford. To RSVP or for more information, call 203-322-6971, visit www.bartlettarboretum.org or email info@bartlettarboretum.org.

5:30 p.m.: The movie “Education vs. Incarceration” will be screened on the 6th floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd. Refreshments will be served and a panel discussion will follow.

7 p.m.: The Board of Finance holds its regular monthly meeting to discuss grants, capital items, and other financial issues. The meeting will take place in the board’s conference room, 4th floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd. 

Friday, April 13

7 p.m.: The Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Schofieldtown Road, Stamford, offers an outdoor class to search for owls and observe them in their natural habitat. Recommended for ages 6 and older. Space is limited. To register, call 203-977-6521. Admission: $5 and $8.

7:30 p.m.: If space is your thing, the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road, will host an astronomy nights featuring eclipses. After the lecture, there will be an opportunity to view the night sky through the 22-inch research telescope at the center’s observatory. This program is suitable for children ages 5 and older. Admission is free for members, $3 for adults, $2 children (5-17).
