Monday, May 7

Kid’s book discussion: 5 p.m. This month the group will be discussing Jeanne Birdsall’s “The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits and a Very Interesting Boy.” The program is recommended for students in grades 3-5 and will take place at the Harry Bennett Branch of the Ferguson Library, 115 Vine Road, Stamford.

Board of Representatives: 8 p.m. The full board will hold its monthly meeting to discuss and vote upon any ordinances. The meeting will take place in the legislative chambers on the fourth floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Tuesday, May 8

Get Help with Medicare/Medicaid: 1 p.m. The Ferguson Library, 1 Public Library Plaza, will host Chris Crain from the Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging. He will answer questions about Medicare and Medicaid eligibility, physician billing and recent changes in the law. The program is designed to be one-on-one and an appointment is necessary by calling 203-351-8227.

Board of Education: 6:30 p.m. Three committees will meet to discuss a variety of different topics facing the public schools. The meetings will be held in successive order and will be held in the conference room on the 5th floor of the Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Wednesday, May 9

Ninth Annual Rays of Hope Gala: 6 p.m. The Italian Center,1620 Newfield Ave., will be the venue for a night of dinner and dancing to support the Shelter for the Homeless. Learn How to Avoid Probate: 6 p.m. Personal money manager, Julie Jason will be at the Ferguson Library, 1 Public Library Plaza, to share tips on managing home finances. Register for the talk at fergusonlibrary.org, click on the calendar link on our homepage or call 203 351-8227.

Family Play and Learn Night: 6 p.m. Families with a child preparing to enter kindergarten are invited to the Ferguson Library, 1 Public Library Plaza, to focus on literacy and math readiness skills. Thursday, May 10

Mother’s Day Craft: 4:15 p.m. In need of a Mother’s Day gift? Children 8 and up can head to the South End Branch of the Ferguson Library, 34 Woodland Ave. They will make May Flowers for the special women in their life.

Interfaith Film Festival: 7:30 p.m. The Robert DeNiro and Jeremy Irons film “The Mission” will be shown as the opening screening for the film festival, which is sponsored by the Avon Theater and Interfaith Council of Southwestern Connecticut. The movie will be shown at the Avon, 272 Bedford St., and tickets range from $6 to $11.

WCBS Joe Connolly Speaks in Stamford: 7:30 p.m. The news reporter will be sharing his thoughts on finding new business opportunities at Congregation Agudath Shalom, 301 Strawberry Hill Ave. The event is open to all, and is free to attend. Friday, May 11

Spring Plant Sale: 10 a.m. The Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens annual plant sale will take place Friday and Saturday offering a large variety of different plants and flowers to choose from. For more information or reserved seating, call 203 358-2200.

“The Wild Things:” 8 p.m. The Cloonan Middle School Drama Club will be performing the play Friday night at the school, 11 W. North St. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students in advance, $10 at the door.
