Two Brandish Weapons in Coffee Standoff

O'Neil Sinclair, 37, of Piave Street, and Jonathan Charles Williams, 35, of Beechmont Avenue, got more than just a cup of coffee when they stopped by a Shell Gas Station convenience store Friday morning. The two separately entered the store, at 243 West Ave., according to police. Williams had poured his coffee and was standing in line to pay when Sinclair, who was standing behind Williams, asked Williams to move so Sinclair could pour a cup of coffee. Williams refused to budge.

The two didn't say anything to each other. However, Sinclair pulled out a knife, according to police. Williams pulled out his own knife. The pair remained silent as they approached the cash register and paid. After leaving the store, Williams walked to his car, which was parked in the lot, took out a plumbing pipe and walked toward Sinclair. Sinclair went to his vehicle and pulled out a machete. When authorities arrived, each dropped his weapon. Both calmly went with officers, without incident, according to police.

Williams was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace and carrying a dangerous weapon. His bond was set at $5,000 and he was scheduled to appear in court today. Sinclair was charged with second-degree breach of peace, carrying a dangerous weapon and second-degree threatening. He was released on a promise to appear. His court date also was today.
