Stamford Woman Dies in Car Accident

A Stamford senior citizen died after suffering severe injuries in a single-vehicle traffic accident on Monday, according to Stamford Hospital spokesman Scott Orstad. The Stamford Police Department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating the incident, which took place at 7:40 a.m. at 156 Clay Hill Road. Elissa Anselmo, 87, was traveling east, driving a 2010 a Subaru Impreza, when it veered off the road, struck a large boulder and flipped on its side, leaving Anselmo partially ejected, according to police. The Turn of River Fire Department used Hurst tools to extricate her. She had "severe and incapacitating injuries" to the lower part of her body, according to police, and was taken to Stamford Hospital by Stamford Emergency Medical Service ambulance. The investigation is being led by Stamford Police Officer Hugh Mullin.
