Stamford Will Conduct Second Leaf Sweep Due To Warm Weather

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford will begin a second round of leaf pickups this week because unseasonably warm weather has allowed the city extra time to make a pickup for residents who still have leaves on their curbs, according to Mayor David Martin.

Stamford residents will have a second chance to have their fall leaves picked up this week by the city. To have them picked up, residents to need to contact the city.

The first round of pickups was completed late last week, said Director of Operations Ernie Orgera.

“Our guys did a great, thorough job, and I want to thank Thomas Turk and his team for getting this all done before the snow starts,” said Martin. “It is important for us to get as many leaves off the street and out of the storm drains as possible to prevent flooding and contamination issues this winter. Because of this, and the unseasonable weather, I have asked for a second quick sweep of the city for people’s houses that still have leaves at the curb.”

Weather-permitting, for the second sweep, residents may contact the City’s Citizen’s Service Bureau to alert the Highways Department about the location of leaves by 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21.

Residents can do this by going to stamfordct.gov/servicecenter, calling 203-977-4140, or downloading the Stamford app and putting in a request.

The Highways Department has already received more than 100 requests for leaf pickups. To expedite the process, leaf trucks will only be collecting leaves that do not have debris mixed in with them. The city’s crews have already collected and processed 11,500 tons of leaves so far this year.
