“The pictures and videos coming out of Texas and Louisiana get worse and worse every day, showing unthinkable devastation,” said Mayor David Martin, who was joined at the even by Stamford-based Americares and U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).
“We in Stamford have not been immune to floods and storms over the years, so I appreciate that residents are looking for ways to help those who have been affected. Stick with known organizations that have track records of helping during natural disasters. The City of Stamford stands with the City of Houston, and I hope my fellow residents will join me in helping with relief efforts.”
The hurricane made initial landfall last Friday, and has produced 51 inches of rain in some areas, destroying some 48,000 homes.
If Stamford residents are interested in helping, there are several organizations they can assist. Americares has already been working on the ground in Texas, and is taking monetary donations at www.Americares.org.

Fairfield-based Save the Children is on the ground responding to vulnerable children and families. More information can be found here: www.savethechildren.org.
