Stamford Man Found Dead in L.I. Sound

STAMFORD, Conn. — Police found the body of a 68-year-old Stamford man floating in Long Island Sound behind his Southfield Avenue home on Sunday, Lt. Diedrich Hohn said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was reported missing Saturday night, Hohn said. A dive team was called to the scene to assist with the search because evidence pointed to the possibility that the man fell into the Sound, he said.

Police believe he fell into the water and drowned but have not ruled anything out, Hohn said. The man had fallen into the water once before and was rescued, he said.

The last time he was seen was Monday, March 26, and police are looking into recent phone records. The case was still under investigation, Hohn said.
