Stamford EMS Earns Special Honor

Stamford EMS has achieved elite status. It recently received its second full accreditation from the national Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (“CAAS”) and is the only EMS organization in Connecticut to do so.

“This is not only a great honor, but it illustrates the commitment to excellence that Stamford EMS works under,” said Deputy Chief Ed Podgorski.

"We provide only the most intense and complete training available, which is why we feel so good about this accreditation," he said.

Stamford EMS provides first responder emergency medical services to all of Stamford from its headquarters on Long Ridge Road and four other locations across the city under a contract with the City of Stamford.

The not-for-profit Stamford EMS works in tandem with the Stamford Fire Department through the city’s 911  dispatch system. It responded to almost 13,000 calls last year.

The CAAS is an independent commission established in 1990 to develop uniform standards of practice and monitor the level of service and care provided by emergency medical and ambulance services across the U.S.

Stamford EMS currently has about 45 fulltime and 20 part-time employees and about 20 volunteers who support the teams on call.
