Stamford Drug Trafficker Gets 10 Years

A resident of the Dominican Republic was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison Wednesday for supplying cocaine to drug dealers in southwestern Connecticut, including Stamford, according to a press release from the  U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The convicted trafficker, Carlos Marte Santos, was also sentenced to five years of supervised release. Santos, 40, was arrested in 2009 as a part of “Operation Big Loot,” a six-month investigation led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Stamford Police Department’s Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad. At the time of his arrest he had approximately 425 grams of powder cocaine, 226 grams of crack cocaine and several pieces of identification with different names, the release said.

On May 4, 2010, he pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base and a quantity of powder cocaine. Court documents and statements made in court said Santos supplied several Stamford drug dealers with cocaine, the release said.

Santos also uses the names Julio Cesar Santos, Cesar and Shorty. He has been detained since his arrest.

He was one of 52 individuals arrested at the state and federal level on charges related to the distribution of cocaine and crack cocaine. Law enforcement seized approximately $165,000 in cash, one kilogram of cocaine, two kilograms of crack cocaine, five firearms and several vehicles during the investigation, the release said.
