Penelope Psichopaidas, 80, of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Penelope Psichopaidas of Stamford died on Sunday at the Smith House in Stamford. She was 80 years old. She was born in Fairfield on Jan. 27, 1931, and moved to Greensboro, N.C., in her teens before moving to Stamford.

She enjoyed knitting gifts for family and friends and was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels.

Psichopaidas is survived by two sons, James Psichopaidas and his wife, Marcy, and Peter Psichopaidas and his wife, Jan; her sister, Georgia Stavros and her husband, Peter; and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Nicholas Psichopaidas, and her sister, Sylvia Cypress.

Friends and family may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m. A funeral procession will leave Cognetta’s at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, for a service at the Church of the Archangels at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

The family requests that donations be made in Psichopaidas’ name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or to the Church of the Archangels Ladies Philoptochos Society.
