STAMFORD, Conn. The streets of downtown Stamford will be red, white and blue Sunday as the city holds its annual Memorial Day Parade.
Be a part of Stamfords spirit, said Cortland Mehl, a retired Army major and Stamford resident. He urged people to watch the parade, adding that people should shut off their phones and reflect on what life would be like without the sacrifice others have paid.
You have to keep the memory of our departed veterans alive, said Mehl, who also serves as the Commander of the Kulka Brothers Post 1957 of Catholic War Veterans.
Mehl will be one of the many veterans from Stamford and the area who will be making the trek down Summer Street to Main Street before ending at Veterans Park. After the parade, a ceremony will be held in the park.
Joining the veterans will be many other marching units representing different community groups, schools and marching bands.
Also Saturday at 6 p.m. the U.S. Marine Corps band from Parris Island, S.C., will perform a free concert at Westhill High School. If you cant make the Saturday night performance, the band will be marching in the parade and performing at the ceremony afterward.
