Man Charged in Stabbing at Stamford Restaurant

STAMFORD, Conn. — A Stamford man was arrested in the stabbing of a bouncer at Taco’s Hugo on the city’s West Side late Sunday, Lt. Diedrich Hohn said.

The bouncers said they asked Ismael Esteban-Lazaro, 24, of Stamford, to leave the restaurant because he was intoxicated and unruly, according to Hohn. The man then ran back into the restaurant and stabbed one of the bouncers in the stomach, Hohn said. Another bouncer chased the suspect to the back of Stamford Hospital, where police found him and made the arrest, the lieutenant said.

Esteban-Lazaro had a 4-inch spring-blade knife when he was arrested, Hohn said. He was charged with first-degree assault, carrying a dangerous weapon and interfering with an officer, police said. He was unable to post the $75,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court Monday, Hohn said.

The bouncer was taken to Stamford Hospital for surgery and was in stable condition, Hohn said.
