Man Assaults Estranged Wife, Police Say

Mark Hatfield, 24, of Whitney Avenue in Hamden was arrested in Stamford after his wife, from whom he is separated, filed an assault complaint with the Stamford Police Department. She said Hatfield came to her Stamford home on Aug. 10 and told her that he wanted to pick up his belongings. She allowed him to do so, but after he entered the home she said Hatfield repeatedly assaulted and choked her, and at one point placed a handgun in her face. Based on the complaint, which was filed Aug. 16, officers applied for an arrest warrant. Hatfield came to the police station Aug. 19 and surrendered to police. He was charged with second-degree assault/firearm, first-degree strangulation, third-degree assault, second-degree threatening and first-degree reckless endangerment. Bond was set at $100,000, and Hatfield was scheduled to appear in court the following day.
