The announcement this week of additional members to Gov.-elect Dan Malloys transition team indicates hell seek advice from a broad spectrum of experts as he makes the move from Stamford to Hartford. The list represents a mix of professions, areas of expertise, regions, and racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Malloy had been strongly criticized by Scot X Esdaile, president of the Connecticut State Conference NAACP Branches, for what Esdaile called a lack of diversity among his original team picks. Referring to a list provided by the Malloy camp, Esdaile issued a press release stating his concerns.
Shortly afterward, Malloys team issued its own statement, saying Esdaile was premature in his criticism and noting that the transition team was still being formed. Its unfortunate that the NAACP chose not to discuss their concerns with us first before sending out a press release, said Tim Bannon, co-chair of the transition team. If the NAACP would like to discuss diversity within the transition team or the future administration, were happy to have that discussion.
The transition team will operate as three committees: Steering, Personnel and Policy. Malloy, a former Stamford mayor, tapped several Stamford residents. They include State Sen. Andrew McDonald, Kathryn Emmett, Joe McGee, Juanita James and Johnna Torsone.
Heres a complete list of transition team members, as of this week:
