Michael Borcina will pay the amount as part of a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Matthew Badger, the father of the girls, the Post said. At the time of the fire, Borcina was Madonna Badger's boyfriend and contractor. Borcina was sued for allegedly performing shoddy work and not equipping the home with fire detectors, the Post said.
The fire roared through the home at 2267 Shippan Ave. overnight, killing the five people. The three Badger girls -- Lilly, 10, and twins Sarah and Grace, 7 -- died along with Madonna Badger's parents, Lomer and Pauline Johnson.
Madonna Badger and Borcina were up until about 3 a.m., making last-minute Christmas preparations on the night of the fire. Borcina's improper disposal of ashes from the fireplace started the early-morning blaze.
The settlement was reached on Dec. 10, according to the Post report. Matthew Badger had filed a wrongful death lawsuit in 2012.
Madonna Badger remarried in July 2014.
