Stamford Neighbors Notes

Congratulations to director Diane Zinicola, who took the Westhill High School winter percussion ensemble to the WGI Percussion World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. This talented group of students made it to the semifinals, placing a respectable 16th in the competitive Scholastic Marching A Class. Parents who chaperoned and supported the students include Denise Enright, Denise Benson, Dawn Bria, Sherry Tarantino, Sherry Fong, Pat Kravetz, Frank Benemio and Alex Finiasz.

Family and friends recently gathered to help Manette Berns celebrate a milestone birthday. She moved from France after she married her dashing American soldier, Dr. Joel Berns. Manette raised her three children in Stamford while her husband established a successful oral surgery practice. Manette has been a tireless community volunteer at hospice for more than two decades and at many other organizations, including FISH, Domestic Violence Services and several local libraries.

Hannah Rubin of Stamford, who attends Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts, will become a New Yorker in September. She recently received notification that she had early acceptance to her first choice: the Eugene Lang College, the New School for Liberal Arts.

It’s not too early to think about Mother’s Day! “Celebrating Moms” committee chairs Carla Bick and Jenny Fuchs, along with their committee, have planned a diverting and relaxing evening for May 4 at the Stamford Jewish Community Center. A cabaret performance of Mom’s The Word will celebrate the joys and challenges of motherhood with parodies of the challenges of motherhood. An opportunity to shop boutique vendors rounds out the event. To order tickets, costing $36 in advance, call 203-322-7900.
