STAMFORD, Conn. – SoundWaters, the Stamford-based environmental education organization, was awarded a $30,000 grant from a new charitable foundation, Impact Fairfield County.

In a competitive process, more than 60 nonprofit organizations applied for a series of grants totaling $160,000. SoundWaters was one of three finalists, along with Inspirica and Neighbors Link, both also Stamford-based.

“We are extremely grateful to Impact Fairfield County for making this grant available and honored to have been selected as one of three finalists. Congratulations to Inspirica for receiving the primary grant and to our co-runner up, Neighbors Link, for their inspired work,” said SoundWaters President Leigh Shemitz.

SoundWaters applied for the grant to pay for “Living Harbor Project: Connecting Low Income Communities to the Environment.” This initiative represents SoundWaters’ first focused effort to rehabilitate and upgrade the infrastructure at its new teaching site, the waterfront Boccuzzi Park on Southfield Avenue, to enable greater access to Stamford Harbor and SoundWaters educational programs and resources for underserved students and residents of the surrounding Waterside neighborhood and the wider Stamford community.
