Elinor Kirk, 84, Longtime Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. – Elinor F. Kirk, a former resident of Stamford, died May 3 at Apple Rehab in Mystic, Conn., her residence for the past several years. 

Born June 10, 1927 in Hartford, she was the daughter of Helene A. and Edward J. Foley. She was raised in East Hartford, attending Mount St. Joseph Academy before continuing onto St. Joseph College. She was married for 52 years to Robert V. Kirk, who predeceased her in 2005. 

Kirk and her husband began their life together in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1963, they moved to Stamford, where they lived for 45 years. Family was her top priority and Sunday family dinners were mandatory and memorable. Kirk was an active member of St. Cecilia Church for many years. After raising her children, she worked at Cadbury Schweppes headquarters in Stamford. 

She is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth (Michael) McAndrew, of Stonington, Conn., Nancy (Craig) Kavanaugh, of Shelton, Conn., Ellen (Thomas) O'Connell, of Alpharetta, Ga. and Mary (Thomas) Reynolds, of Penfield, N.Y.; two sons, Thomas (Kathleen) Kirk, of Redding, Conn. and Robert V. Kirk, Jr., of Stamford and nine grandchildren. Kirk was predeceased by a brother, Edward Foley; a sister, Elizabeth Foley and a granddaughter, Tierney O'Connell. 

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home in Stamford. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Cecilia Church in Stamford. Burial will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford.
