Among the children attending the event was Sofia Frascatore, 4, from Stamford, who was at her first egg hunt.
“I have a hundred eggs,” she said proudly of her basket that was filled with plastic eggs after her successful hunt.
Children ages 6 and younger collected plastic eggs and turned them in to nature center staff members, who gave them goody bags in return. Staff members placed more eggs throughout the Heckscher Farm area for each wave of children who came during the two-hour event on Saturday.
Sofia’s mother said the family has a membership to the Stamford Museum & Nature Center but had never attended the egg hunt event before. She’s a big fan of the nature center.
“I love it. The children can come and pet the animals and they can see the otters,” she said. “It is just wonderful to be close to nature and in touch with nature.”
She said Sofia enjoyed the event. “It was very exciting for her. She would pick up the eggs and then take them out of her basket and put them on the ground,” she said with a laugh.
The crowds were so large, with people continually streaming into the event. Vehicles were diverted to Northeast School in order to find enough parking spaces.
