STAMFORD, Conn. Colombian artist John J. Bedoya gives his first solo U.S. exhibit when Beyond Technique: John J. Bedoya opens at the Fernando Luis Alvarez Gallery in Stamford.
Bedoya uses such materials as sand, dirt and clay and combines them with little paint to create his large-sized works, a press release said. He considers his medium to be the way he creates each piece by throwing, spreading and spoiling the elements on the canvas, the release said.
My work is not only symbolic, but corporeal; it is a work of gestures, the artists said in the release. What you see is what you touch. Earth, sand, pots, knives, plates, soles, coal and acrylics are turned into a landscape signaling an expression by spreading, throwing, spoiling and plowing these materials on canvas.
An opening reception will take place Friday, Sept. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the gallery, 96 Bedford St. in Stamford. The public is invited to the reception.
