Circus Act Twists the Day Away in Stamford

Contortionists from the Big Apple Circus shocked passers-by in Stamford Tuesday as they gave a sneak preview of the show coming to the city this summer. The five members of the X Bud Roses Troupe performed on a small, circular stage, twisting bodies for those who stopped to watch the show.

The troupe comes from Mongolia where all five members trained in the movement tradition of their homeland from ages 5 through 9, the circus' website says. The most difficult aspect of their routine, the website says, is to keep smiling.

The Big Apple Circus will return to Stamford from June 10 through July 4 with its new “Dance On!” show. There will be 36 performances in Mill River Park, with proceeds going to the Mill River Park and Stamford’s Downtown Special Services District.

Tickets begin at $15 and are available at (888) 541-3750, online or at the box office in Mill River Park. The box office will open on Friday, June 10, and will be open Tuesday to Friday, 10-8 p.m., and Saturday to Monday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. For groups of 15 people or more or for inquiries about wheelchair-accessible seating, call the Ticket Info Line at (800) 922-3772.
