STAMFORD, Conn., -- The Avon Theatre will celebrate the life of the late musician, Prince by hosting special screenings of his movie "Purple Rain" at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Prince died Thursday at the age of 57 in his Minnesota home. He sold tens of millions of records but also starred in the movie "Purple Rain" in 1984.

Adam Birnbaum, the Avon Theatre's director of programming, said the theater is paying homage to the gifted artist.

“The Avon decided we wanted to do something to pay homage to Prince since he left such a lasting artistic legacy and had legions of fans," Birnbaum said. "We though there was no better way than to bring back his beloved film, 'Purple Rain,' which hasn't been shown locally in theaters since it first opened in 1984. We hope everyone can make it down to celebrate his music with this big screen presentation.”

Also this week, the theater will show the classic spaghetti western, "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly," starring Clint Eastwood, at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A members-only speak preview of "The Family Fang," starring Nicole Kidman and Jason Bateman, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. This is a free event for Avon Theatre members although there are spots available and people can become members and reserve a free ticket by calling (203) 661-0321.
