A highlight of the concert will be Salvatore Princiotti’s return to the podium as a guest conductor to an organization that he founded and led for half a century.

Princiotti retired from leading SYAP three years ago, but his influence still looms over the organization. His charisma, drive and passion for helping students to strive to be their very best are what the alumni remember about Princiotti.

Although many of the SYAP graduates have gone onto careers outside of music, they remember Princiotti as a towering figure, who helped them develop a life-long passion for music and a belief that they can achieve their dreams and goals.

SYAP continues to evolve with Christian Capocaccia as the artistic director. He is keen to continue to put his personal stamp on the organization but he knows that he needs to act as the bridge between the past, present and the future.

“I am very aware of the Princiotti legacy and I want all of the alumni to know that the foundation of the orchestra will remain just as Sal had envisioned it: an orchestra that draws talented young musicians to help them reach their musical potential.,'' Capocaccia said. "More importantly, I know that the orchestra was a change agent — it transformed the lives of many alumni — and we need to continue that legacy. I hope many of the former members of the orchestra will support us in helping to continue what Sal started."

Princiotti and Capocaccia will be conducting the Young Artists Philharmonic — the flagship orchestra. In addition, more than 20 alumni will be arriving from near and far to perform with current students. Alumni scheduled to play at the concert include Eric Kung, now a neurologist and the President of SYAP and Adam Adelkopf, who will be playing Aaron Copland’s clarinet concerto with his daughter.

Also performing will be the Young People’s Symphony, SYAP’s upper-intermediate full orchestra, whose program will feature music of Robert Schumann and Richard Meyer. Opening the program is a string orchestra for intermediate level players, the Young String Ensemble, who will perform music of William Harbinson, Alan Lee Silva, G.F. Handel and more.

General admission is $55 for adults and $45 for seniors. All students and music teachers are admitted free of charge. Tickets to the post-concert wine & cheese reception are $20 each.

SYAP is comprised of young musicians from southern Connecticut and northern Westchester counties who train and perform in three orchestras: Young Strings Ensemble, Young People’s Symphony and Young Artists Philharmonic. For more information on SYAP, visit www.syap.org
