Condon loves to tell stories about her husband and kids. She was named one of 10 Comedy Best Bets in Back Stage’s annual comedy issues, and has appeared on ABC’s The View, Lifetime TV’s “Girls Night Out” and NBC’s Today Show, among others.
Condon touches on a wide range of topics during her acts, but especially raising her family in Greenwich.
“I love performing, but especially locally,’’ Condon said. “In Greenwich, I used to go to all of the kids' games, but I was never one of those parents who said everybody’s a winner, good job, get yourself a trophy. Every once in a while I'd think if that mom would put down her chardonnay, she might notice that her son just scored a goal for the other team.”
Condon was raised in Brockton, one of the hardscrabble suburbs of Boston. Moving to Greenwich was a big adjustment. “In Brockton, going away means jail. In Greenwich, it means rehab. One of my friends up the street was rejected from the Betty Ford Clinic. They said she wasn't enough of an alcoholic. So we fixed that. Always willing to help a girl friend.”
One of Condon’s favorite lines is “I live in Greenwich, but I’m still a nice person.” One of her first shows was a fundraiser for the Round Hill Nursery School.
She graduated from Wellesley College -- she even gave the school’s commencement address in 2011 -- and set her sites on joining the Peace Corps. During college, she even worked for a time as a mail carrier. She worked for Fortune magazine and as a teacher, and even had dreams of becoming a lawyer or an FBI agent.
“I think I got in on affirmative action at Wellesley,’’ Condon said. “I think they thought ‘She’s Irish Catholic, she’ll be interesting to the other children.’”
When she found she could deliver comedy, Condon said she felt as if she finally fit in. “It’s like I found my tribe,’’ she said. “We lived in Japan for a few years. When we came back, I would lecture about my book about Japanese women and people would laugh. So I'm thinking, "You think this is funny? Let me tell you about living in Greenwich, Connecticut. That's the foreign country.”
On Thursday, Condon will be back near her adopted home turf. “I always like working close to home,’’ Condon said. “Performing at The Palace is always a lot of fun. I like to think of it as my home theatre.”
