A large fine arts festival that is a huge favorite with Fairfield County residents will close down a major roadway over the holiday weekend.

The Westport Downtown Association Fine Arts Festival -- which runs Saturday, May 27 through Sunday, May 28 -- will close Main Street between Post Road East and Avery Place and Elm Street between Main Street and Bedford Square, said Westport Police Lt. Sereniti Dobson.

The road closure will run from 6 a.m. on Friday (for artists to set up booths) through 8 p.m. on Sunday.

"These road closures will result in traffic congestion downtown and increased pedestrian traffic," Dobson said. "The motoring public is urged to use caution while driving through downtown Westport this weekend."

This year's festival is expected to draw thousands of visitors and will feature original, juried works ranging from paintings to mixed media and glass.

The festival is free to the public and there will be on-site food vending, live music, and plenty of hands-on art projects and demonstrations for children and adults.
