Victim Of Fatal Candlewood Lake Accident Was Beloved Teacher The victim of a fatal boating accident on Candlewood Lake in New Fairfield was a beloved middle school teacher and a single mother of two. Wanda Tirado, 38, of Waterbury, was fatally injured when she was swimming near Squantz Cove late Tuesday afternoon. Female Swimmer Dies From Injuries Suffered In Fairfield County Accident A 38-year-old woman involved in a boating accident on Squantz Pond in New Fairfield has died from her injuries. Wanda Tirado of Waterbury, a swimmer from a boat, was hit around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at Squantz Pond on Candlewood Lake and suffered critical injuries, said Chris Collibee, with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Tirado died around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday from the injuries sustained, Collibee said.
