Woman Falls 40 Feet From Stratford Bridge, Lands On Construction Barge A woman who was working on a Fairfield County bridge was seriously injured when she fell through a hole and landed 40 feet below on a construction barge. The incident took place in Stratford around 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31 at the Devon Bridge, said Robert Daniel, assistant chief/fire marshal for the Stratford Fire Department. Stratford Fire Rescue, along with Marine 233,  responded to the scene. Using Marine 233 moored alongside the barge, firefighters and Stratford EMS treated and stabilized the 55-year-old woman before using a rope rescue system to extricate the victim…

Man Suffering Medical Emergency Crashes Into Garage In Stratford A man suffering from a medical emergency crashed into a garage, causing it to collapse on top of the vehicle. The incident took place around 6:20 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 10 on Elm Street in Stratford when the 68-year-old man crashed a Honda hatchback into the garage, authorities said. Firefighters had to remove the garage from around the vehicle and extract the man through the back of the car, said the Stratford Fire Department. Man Badly Burned During Stratford House Fire Firefighters were able to save a person trapped inside a garage while the structure was on fire. The incident took place around 1:47 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 45 Mill Pond Road, said Stratford Assistant. Fire Chief/Fire Marshall Robert Daniel. When firefighters arrived on the scene heavy fire was visible inside the garage and extending up the exterior of the structure, Daniel said. "Rudy" Weiss best known for being the owner of Windmill Restaurant in Stratford for 40 years died Tuesday, April 23 after suffering a long time from Lewy Body Dementia. He was 83. Stratford's John Rich, 'Hero To Canines,' Dies At 56 John Edward Rich, 56, a hero to canines and their human companions in town, died Friday, Jan. 26 at Bridgeport Hospital.  The cause was complications from diabetes, a disease that he battled for years. Mr. Rich was born Oct. 15, 1961 in Bridgeport, the son of Carol (Taylor) Rich and the late John B. Rich, Jr. of Stratford. He grew up in Lordship and was a life-long resident of Stratford.
