A longtime Connecticut bakery known for its fresh pastries and cakes made from scratch has permanently closed. Julia's Bakery, located in the New Haven County town of Orange, officially closed on New Year's Day. Owner Jeff Chandler announced plans for the closure on Friday, Dec. 2. After debating for the better part of a full day, Connecticut lawmakers have passed legislation that will incrementally increase the state’s minimum wage until it reaches $15 an hour by 2023. For approximately 14 hours, beginning Wednesday night before being approved around noon on Thursday, May 9, members of the state’s House of Representatives debated the merits of the bill before passing it.
