One Of Last Covered Bridges In CT Severely Damaged By Backhoe A historic covered bridge in Connecticut was severely damaged after someone towed a backhoe through it, officials said.  The West Cornwall Covered Bridge in Litchfield County, located in West Cornwall by the intersection of Route 128 and Route 7, was damaged on Friday afternoon, Dec. 23, when the backhoe struck multiple wooden beams that support the bridge's roof, according to the state's Department of Transportation.  Because of the severe damage, engineers are now analyzing the bridge, which will be closed for about a week, officials said. Covid-19: All CT Counties Now Classified As Areas With 'Substantial' Community Transmission All eight of Connecticut's counties have been classified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as areas with "substantial" community transmission of COVID-19.  This means in during the period in the week of Tuesday, July 27, through Monday, Aug. 2, between 50 and 99.99 cases of COVID-19 were reported per 100,000 in each county. New Tornado Touchdown Confirmed In Region, Bringing Total To Three A new tornado touchdown from severe storm activity in the region on Thursday, Aug. 27 has been confirmed. The National Weather Service announced on Sunday, Aug. 30 that an  Enhanced Fujita Scale (EF) 0 twister touched down in Kent, Connecticut, near the Dutchess County border in Litchfield County, at 3:31 p.m. Thursday. An EF-0 twister, with winds of 65 to 85 miles per hour, is the weakest of six types of twisters. (See the scale at the bottom of this page.)
