Mosquitoes In Fairfield County Test Positive For West Nile Virus
The season's first West Nile Virus-positive mosquitoes have been found in Fairfield County in a batch of mosquitoes trapped June 19. According to the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, the mosquitoes were trapped in New Canaan. “The first West Nile virus positive mosquitoes of the season have been identified,” said Dr. Philip Armstrong, the medical entomologist at the experiment station. “This is one of the earlier detections of virus recorded during the last 20 years of the statewide monitoring program.” While warning Fairfield County residents to protect themselves against mosq…

Walmart, Sam's Club To Limit Opioid Prescriptions
With the country in the midst of an opioid epidemic, Walmart is taking efforts to curtail drug abuse by its customers. Officials announced Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacies around the country will fill all opioid prescriptions with no more than a seven-day supply, capping daily dosages at 50 morphine milligram equivalents. The new policy is in line with guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding opioid use and abuse. Boughton Back On Job After Collapsing At GOP Gubernatorial Candidates Event
Mark Boughton is back on the job just in time for St. Patrick's Day.The 54-year-old Boughton, Danbury’s longest-serving mayor, was hospitalized after collapsing from dehydration at an event Thursday for Republican gubernatorial candidates. Boughton was rushed to the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington after the incident at the meet-and-greet for GOP candidates in Avon. Griffin’s Wonderland Of Trees Raises $9,300 For Spooner House In Shelton
SHELTON, Conn. – Griffin Hospital’s annual Holiday Wonderland of Trees fundraiser collected more than $9,300 for Spooner House in Shelton to help feed and shelter area families in need this winter. As part of Griffin’s Planetree Person-Centered Care Philosophy, the Holiday Wonderland of Trees calls on hospital departments to decorate 3-foot artificial evergreen trees that are raffled off. The fundraiser aims to help improve health the community by supporting the Spooner House’s services. This is the seventh year of the fundraiser, which has raised more than $47,000 in total.
