Greenwich Police say officers were patrolling the area of Mill Street and Mead Avenue when a driver ran a red light on Monday, July 8 around 1:30 a.m.
The officers initiated a traffic stop and interviewed the driver, who identified himself as Alexander Lucero, police say.
Police allegedly detected an alcoholic odor while interviewing the driver and asked him to participate in a series of field sobriety tests, which he did not pass.
Lucero was arrested and charged with the following:
- Operating under the influence
- Failure to obey a traffic control signal
- Operating a motor vehicle without a license
- Operating an unregistered motor vehicle
- Operating a motor vehicle without insurance
- Misuse of license plates
Lucero was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, July 22.
Police say the FBI Fingerprint Index revealed that Lucero’s fingerprints actually belonged to an “Alexis Ortega.” Upon confrontation, the suspect admitted to officers that he had lied about his name.
Ortega, 21, of New Haven, Connecticut faces additional charges of second-degree forgery and interfering with an officer.
Police subsequently discovered that Ortega was the subject of two outstanding arrest warrants charging him with second-degree failure to appear. Each warrant had a court-assigned bond of $5,000 from Milford Superior Court, police say.
Since Ortega was not able to post bond for his original arrest, he has been scheduled to appear at Milford Superior Court on Friday, July 19.
