Hall of Fame basketball coach Jim Calhoun has been accused of sex discrimination and of fostering a “boys club” in a lawsuit against the University of Saint Joseph, the Division III school where he now coaches. Jaclyn Piscitelli, a former athletic director at Saint Joseph, filed a lawsuit this week against the school in West Hartford, alleging Title IX violations, including claims against Calhoun. A Greenwich brother and sister returned home from Bolivia with medals they won in a youth fencing championship. In her first international fencing competition, 13-year-old Madison Duckett won a gold medal at the Pan American Youth Championships for Team USA for her victory in the Pre-Cadet Women’s Saber event that took place in Cochabamba, Bolivia in August. Madison, who just began competing on the national fencing circuit in 2018 and only started fencing in 2017, showed dominant form throughout the tournament which took place August 27-31, 2019. Ready to “break the mold?” Open tryouts have been scheduled for The Reapers women’s tackle football team in Carmel. The Reapers will hold open tryouts at 790 Long Pond Road in Carmel on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. No experience is necessary, and all body types are welcome. A New Canaan teen has been rewarded with a scholarship to the Golf Performance Center’s Junior Academy in Ridgefield after winning the year-long Foster Cup competition, officials say. Max Orwicz, a 17-year-old senior at New Canaan High School, earned the 2018-2019 Foster Cup trophy with five top-five finishes in Foster Cup events. “Max worked very hard and had an outstanding season,” said PGA Professional Roger Knick, Founder and CEO of the Golf Performance Center. “We look forward to working with him during his senior year and helping him achieve his goal of a college golf scholarship.” …

Longtime women’s college basketball coach Cathy Inglese, who was hired by Hofstra as associate head coach earlier this summer, died after suffering a traumatic brain injury in a fall.
