At approximately 3:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, the 911 dispatch center received a call reporting smoke coming from the roof of the building near Forest and Grove streets, the Stamford Fire Department said.
The first arriving engine reported heavy smoke and fire visible on the top floor of the condominium unit at 104 Forest St.
The fire was quickly upgraded to a second alarm.
Five engines, two trucks, one rescue, and one command unit worked to extinguish the blaze, which had taken hold of the third floor of the condo unit and attic space, according to the Stamford Fire Department. An unspecific number of third-floor residents were displaced.
Crews worked to assure sleeping occupants were evacuated and that the fire was confined to only the involved unit. The involved unit received heavy fire, smoke, and water damage and was deemed unsafe for re-occupation. The remainder of the tenants were allowed to re-occupy their units.
The one firefighter who received an injury he was treated and released.
EMS and police were summoned to the scene as well. The Red Cross was summoned as well.
The fire was under uncontrol at 3:42 a.m., the Stamford Fire Department said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshals office.
