Ridgefield Woman Raises Awareness For Alzheimer's With Walk

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Ridgefield resident Bonnie Leavy-Mello, Director of Community Relations at Laurel Ridge Health Care Center, is a dedicated Walk event committee member and Walk team captain for the Fairfield County Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

The Fairfield County Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place on Oct. 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk.

In August Leavy-Mello spearheaded the inaugural Paint the Town Purple event in Ridgefield. She has also been instrumental in launching the inaugural program book related to the Walk to be distributed at this year’s event.The parent company of Laurel Ridge, Athena Health Care, is one of the statewide sponsors for the 2015 Fairfield County Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

“I am so proud of the accomplishments of the local Connecticut chapter and will continue to support their mission of hope,” Leavy-Mello said.

Registration for the annual event, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter, continues to shatter records and currently boasts 183 teams and 800 walkers who have raised $135,776 to date. 

To register for the Fairfield County event, visit alz.org/ct.  Event donations will be accepted through Dec. 15, and can be made online.
