The crash happened at around 6:40 a.m. on Thursday near mile marker 26.8 southbound in the town of Southeast, according to Trooper Krystal Paolicelli of the New York State Police.
Upon arrival, troopers confirmed the crash involved two vehicles and that one person had died. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, and the identity of the victim has not been released.
As of Thursday at around 12:30 p.m., the left and center lanes of I-684 southbound had reopened to traffic.
