Snow Falls as Gusting Winds Continue To Roar

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — The wintry weather continued Saturday afternoon as light snow began to fall amid strong, gusting winds, the National Weather Service reported.

Light to moderate snow was affecting a large portion of Connecticut, the Weather Service said. The snow combined with the 40 to 50 mph wind gusts could cause problems with visibility on roadways, and icy, slippery spots were also possible, the forecast said.

A wind advisory remained in effect until midnight Saturday in portions of Southern Connecticut, with sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph and higher in gusts. As we all remember from last fall's storms, these winds can bring down trees and branches and may cause isolated power outages.

If you are on the roads, driving can be difficult, especially in tall vehicles and on elevated roads and bridges. Large debris can be blown about, the weather service warned. Caution is advised.

As of 4:30 p.m., Connecticut Light & Power was reporting 1,238 customers statewide without power, including 34 in Darien, 16 in Greenwich, 33 in Stamford and three in Westport. United Illuminating reported one outage in Fairfield.

The weather is expected to brighten up Sunday with a forecast for sunny skies and a high temperature of about 40 degrees.
