Snow Comes in on Little Cat Feet

The third major snowstorm of the winter began quietly, but it was in full swing before Tuesday had officially ended.

The first few flurries began at about 8 p.m., and two hours later, the flakes were coming down at a steady heavy rate. By 11 p.m., several inches of light, fluffy snow covered the ground. State and local plows were in action, trying to stay ahead of the foot or more predicted to fall before the storm ends late Wednesday.

Most drivers heeded the requests from civic officials to stay home. Route 1 near the Norwalk-Darien border was deserted as the snowfall began to intensify.

One of the biggest challenges facing municipal and individual plow operators is where to put all the white stuff. The piles from last Friday's storm are still mostly intact, and several plow operators worked Tuesday making room for this accumulation.
