Snow Begins To Blanket East Norwalk

There were as many pedestrians as vehicles after midnight Wednesday in East Norwalk as the snow fell and a private snowplow cleared a restaurant parking lot. At 1 a.m., about 3.5 inches had collected. A city snowplow came down First Street a bit later. Many residents had not put out their trash although the city says it will get Wednesday's pickup done.

The National Weather Service has a Winter Storm Watch in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday. Snow is expected to be heavy at times, and thunderstorms are possible. Accumulations may reach 2 feet.

Mayor Richard Moccia has declared a snow emergency. Residents are asked to get their cars off the streets, especially off the city's snow emergency routes. Vehicles in violation may be ticketed or towed.
