That storm caused hundreds of power outages across Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford and Wilton.
It also knocked over a tree along the New Canaan Branch of the Metro-North Railroad, bringing trains to a halt for the rest of the evening. The damage occurred near the Talmadge Hill station on the Darien-New Canaan border. No injuries or serious damage was reported.
Buses were brought in after train service was suspended, but full train service was restored for the Thursday morning commute.
Wind gusts of 41 knots, or 45 mph, were reported along the Long Island Sound shoreline, according to the National Weather Service.
The Norwalk Police Department also reported a number of roads closed due to fallen power lines and tree limbs on Wednesday evening.
