Heavy Rain Slows Traffic Along I-95, Merritt Through Fairfield County

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Heavy overnight rain and an early morning tractor-trailer accident on I-95 in Greenwich has resulted in large traffic backups Thursday morning.

The left lane is blocked on I-95 South between Exits 6 and 5 as the cleanup continues. As a result, I-95 Southbound is congested for 22 miles between Exits 25 and 5.

The Greenwich Police Department is also reporting heavy traffic on Route 1 from Neil Lane to Laddins Rock Road a result of the truck accident on I-95.

I-95 Northbound in Greenwich and Stamford is congested between Exits 2 and 6 for 5.9 miles. 

On the Merritt Parkway, an accident is blocking the northbound right lane between Exits 35 and 36, causing delays in the area.

Heavy congestion for nearly 20 miles is also reported on the southbound Merritt, from Exit 50 to Exit 36.

For drivers heading into New York, the southbound Hutchinson River Parkway is closed between Webster Avenue for Exit 16 in New Rochelle and East 3rd Street for Exit 10 in Mount Vernon after a tractor-trailer that struck the overpass. There are rubbernecking delays northbound.
