Brace Yourself: More Snow May Fall This Week

After surviving the first two snowstorms of winter, you would think that now you'd be able to take a break from all that sliding, digging and scraping, right?

Wrong. Don't put those snow boots, shovels and windshield deicers away just yet. Additional snow could be on the way this week, say weather experts, so be prepared for more falling flakes.

It'll probably come Tuesday night, says the National Weather Service. Odds now are 50-50 that residents of Stamford and other area towns will see precipitation. If it comes, it's likely to run into Wednesday, the weather service predicts.

Whether or not the snow comes, temperatures during the week will not creep much past the freezing mark. That's another reason to be careful out there, experts say.

The Stamford Department of Health and Social Services urges residents to protect themselves against cold-weather threats such as frostbite and hypothermia. Youngsters and senior citizens are particularly susceptible to both. The best ways to guard against both is by wearing layers of clothing, covering the head with a hat and hands with gloves or mittens, and placing a scarf around the neck and mouth area. Also, socks and boots should be comfortable and not too tight.

Clothes that get wet should be changed as soon as possible for dry clothing. This is especially important for children who might be playing in the snow for extended periods.
