NORWALK, Conn. — An oversized garbage truck that was wedged under the train bridge on Washington Street on Monday afternoon has been removed, but traffic is still snarled in South Norwalk with a portion of South Main Street closed in the area.
A flatbed truck and tow truck were on the scene trying to get the truck out, according to eyewitnesses. A good portion of the truck was wedged in under the bridge after the crash at about 2:15 p.m., a witness said.
Police officers were routing traffic around the area as of 4 p.m. An MTA police cruiser is blocking traffic from traveling on S. Main Street from Washington Street.
A ladder was seen up against the bridge from South Main Street as several Metro-North staff appeared to inspect the bridge.
Metro-North is running trains over the bridge at reduced speeds. An Amtrak Acela Express and Metro-North commuter train were seen passing over the bridge at about 4 p.m.
