A road in the Hudson Valley was closed for several hours after a fire truck from a Connecticut department crashed while its driver was allegedly texting, authorities said. CT Girl Struck, Killed In Crash Involving Distracted Driver, Police Say
A 14-year-old Connecticut girl was hit and killed by a texting driver who had allegedly been swerving all over the roadway prompting 911 calls, according to police. Hartford County resident Jaylene Gonzalez of Enfield was hit by a pickup truck around 3:15 p.m., Sunday, March 6, as she walked along 150 North Road with her 12-year-old cousin in East Windsor. Crashes Linked To Cell Phone Use, Texting Nearly Double Over Last Decade
More and more drivers find themselves involved in crashes due to cell phone use, according to a new report. Accidents related to cell phone use has risen 86 percent in the past decade, according to a recently released report from TrafficTickets.com, which took a county-by-county look at crashes tied to drivers using cell phones while behind the wheel. State police have released stats related to their increased coverage over the holiday season, even as they continue their crackdown through Wednesday evening.
